Introduction – God will build the House
In the Bible, there are two things where it says that the Lord will build. Jesus said, ‘I will build my church, and gates of hell will not prevail against it (Matthew 16:18).’ The second place where the Bible says that the Lord will build is recorded in Psalm 127:1 ‘Unless the Lord builds the house, the labor in vain who built it.’ The Bible says that the Lord can build a house. The Hebrew word used for the house in Psalm 127:1 appears a thousand times in the Bible and it refers figuratively to households and families. The Bible says that the Lord will build our household and our family.
When God builds our hope, there will be:
- Hope in the Families
When God builds a house, there will be hope inside the family. The word ‘hope’ means good, confident expectation. Sometimes families will go through a time when they have to make a major decision and if the family is not Bible-oriented or church-based, the first approach to the situation will be a negative reaction. So, when we release a negative reaction, we might have already triggered a hindrance to our own future by our words. Later, when we pray, nothing happens because we ourselves have released a negative word.
Now, if it is a family with hope, then the first reaction would be submitting to the Will and plan of Almighty God. When Jesus builds our family, the family will be full of Hope. There will be an atmosphere change in our homes when the Lord is building it. We may have needs and desires in our families, but there will always be hope talks in home because the Lord is building our home.
- Love in the Families
There are many houses where there are family issues and usually the normal human reaction is to hate or dislike the person who is causing trouble in the family. If God is building our house, the second thing that would be there in our house would be love. A heart to love even the unloving, troubled, unfaithful, disobedient family member, because the Love of God would flow through our lives.
- Wisdom and Understanding of God in the families
Through wisdom, a house is built. And by understanding it is established.
Proverbs 24:3 NKJV
Worldly knowledge cannot build a family. It can help us get money to build a physical place to dwell but, it cannot build a family. Solomon, the wisest man on earth understood this and he said God's wisdom and God's understanding have to be there.
- The revelation of the Word of God in the families
The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; By understanding He established the heavens
Proverbs 3:19 NKJV
Now when Solomon is writing about wisdom, he is bringing into comparison how the world is created. The world was created by the Word of God. The words created everything through wisdom and understanding. And Solomon says by the Godly wisdom that we get from the revelation of the Word of God, we need to build our house. Any house that does not have the revelation of the Word of God might fall in the long run.
- Wise women in families
The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish pulls it down with her hands.
Proverbs 14:1 NKJV
The Word of the Lord says that a wise woman builds a house. They will pray and hear from the Lord and lead their families to godly decisions.
Jesus’s Family
Jesus’ Family is the most perfect family we can take as an example where God builds the house.
- Purity in the families
to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.
Luke 1:27 NKJV
One of the first blessings that God gives when God builds a house is that the young daughter of the house will be a virgin. Women are sent into this world with a design and a purpose to build their families and that is where enemies try to attack them and deviate them from the great plan of God by making them sin. The Bible says the mother of Jesus, Mary, was a virgin.
- A Loving and an Understanding Husband
Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife,
Matthew 1:24 (NKJV)
Here, we see the heart of Joseph, the father of Lord Jesus Christ. Instead of bringing shame to that woman, he decides to take her as his wife. That is where the first quality of a husband is. The husband is designed so that God's glory will be manifested in the house. And that is where the devil attacks the husband and makes him an irresponsible drunkard. But because God was building their house, Joseph was loving and understanding towards Mary, who was not ready to forsake his wife but to love her and hold her close. And we read in the bible that the Angels ministered to them.
- Children dedicated for the Work in the Kingdom of God.
Now when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord.
Luke 2:22 NKJV
When God is building the house, the family will submit their children for the work in the kingdom of God. God has created us and sent us into this world with a purpose in the kingdom of God. Jesus' parents realized that His purpose is in the kingdom of God and they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord and dedicate Him. And then the Bible says, in verse number 42, that when he was 12 years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast, dedicated Jesus again and Jesus entered into His God-given purpose, preaching and teaching in the temple (v 46-47).
- Children will increase in Wisdom, Favour, and will stay in the perfect Will of God
As Jesus grew, so did his wisdom and maturity. The favor of men increased upon his life, for he was greatly loved by God.
Luke 2:52 TPT
Jesus was in the synagogue doing His father’s business, and at the same time, Jesus remained obedient to His earthly parents, and the Bible says He increased in wisdom and stature. And consistently His parents made sure that Jesus never deviated from the Will or the Purpose of God. They stayed and obeyed the Word of God. Obeying the word of God means not deviating from anything which God tells us. For a family to be blessed, it is very important that all the people in that family receive the word of God and obey the word of God.
- A mother who stands by her Children in the toughest situation
We see the family of Jesus again at the time of crucifixion where Mary is walking all the paths, which Jesus walked with the cross, along with Jesus and standing by Jesus. Mothers are designed by God in such a way. The house that God builds will have mothers like Mary who will stand with their children, even in their tough situations, to pray for them, and to love them.
- They will hold on to the promise and wait patiently for its fulfillment in their lives
Lastly, in the Bible, we see the mother of Jesus’s family waiting in the Upper Room waiting for the spirit of her son to come on her so that her generation will continue the work that Lord Jesus Christ did. The house that God builds will hold onto the promise that God has released in their lives and they will wait patiently until they see the fulfillment of the promise. As Mary waited, her generations Apostle James and Jude became the leaders of the apostolic movement of the Lord Jesus Christ. If Jesus was the son of the Holy Spirit, the son born to Mary by Joseph, stood up and ticked forward the advancement of the Church of Lord Jesus Christ. This happened because of a woman who understood that by wisdom and by understanding her house would be built.
Concluding Prayer
Dear Jesus,
We are submitting our house and our family into your hands. You build us up. Help us to operate in the wisdom and the understanding of God so that there will be hope and love in our families. Help us to dedicate our lives and especially the lives of our Children for the Work in the Kingdom of God.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
