Introduction – One Heart

This is a sermon on the Promises of God, preached by Pr. Anish Mano Stephen.

We have been hearing about the promises of God. The greatest promise of God that mankind has ever received is the Holy Spirit God himself. In Him, through Him, and For Him, everything happens and will happen in our lives. All the promises of God are Yes and Amen and they are spoken over us so that we can experience a divine standard of life, as the sons and daughters of Almighty God, and be an inseparable part of the Body of Christ.

This excerpt tells us about a Promise of a Healed heart that the Lord will give us.

The Holy Spirit which God gives us in the new covenant is very precious. God has made our hearts very precious expensive beautiful like a jewel box to carry the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit. The very common verse about the change to the new heart is in the book of Ezekiel.

Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in My statutes and keep My judgments and do them; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God.

Ezekiel 11:19-20

One New Heart

One of the secrets of Christianity is not the uniformity in physical appearances in the new covenant, but for the Body of Christ to be the carrier of the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit, God wants us to have one heart that is new, and His Spirit that God himself will give us.

Many believers do not understand the importance of having a new heart they move into the realm of the Holy Spirit with their old heart but the beauty is that God wants to give us a new heart. The new pattern of the Christian life with a new heart becomes very easy and beautiful in God's rest, and we enjoy being with the Almighty God.

Importance of having One New Heart

a) We are transformed to receive a New Heart

A new heart does not mean getting a new organ heart, it means our lives will change for us to accommodate a new and transformed heart. The word metamorphosis means transformation. So, it is not getting a new organ heart but a transformation within ourselves to accommodate a transformed heart. When this new heart is there, we are so glued onto the church family.

b) We become a part of the fellowship

The new temple is being built together with the body of Lord Jesus Christ. We all might come from different backgrounds, different states, and different languages, and we have different Christian belief systems but God is giving us a chance to get changed or transformed or metamorphosed so that we can be glued onto the body of Christ to be a glory manifesto and to be a glory carrier.

c) Faster Fulfillment of Promises

When the Holy Spirit comes upon our lives the promises start to get fulfilled. Jesus told Peter I will build my church on you but it never happened for three and a half years, it looked as if he has lost the promise or calling. The moment they were of one heart when they assembled physically and prayed together the Holy Spirit came upon them and from that day the promises started to get fulfilled. It is God's master plan of bringing all of us together as a body of Christ so that all the promises which are yes and amen in Lord Jesus Christ will be fulfilled in our lives.

Various kinds of Hearts in the Bible

There are various kinds of Hearts mentioned in the Bible, at least 50 kinds of hearts.

a) Broken Heart (Psalms 34:18, Psalms 51:17, Psalms 69:20)

A broken heart is not a soft heart because in the book of Ezekiel, God said, I want to take out your stony heart the hard heart because it will break again but I want to give you a heart of flesh I want to put my Holy Spirit in you.” The brokenness that we go through allows a metamorphosis within us to change ourselves so that we can accommodate a new heart that will be soft, and the advantage of having a soft heart is that no more can we be broken in our lives again.

b) Grieving Heart (Genesis 6:6, Psalms 73:21)

A grieving heart means a crying heart. Bible clearly mentions not to cry unnecessarily. Because if the Holy Spirit must be retained our hearts cannot be grieving, that is what God promises, “You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy” (John 16:20).

c) Discouraged Heart (Numbers 32:7, Deuteronomy 1:28)

A discouraged heart means a heart with no motivation. Whatever the situation, negative or positive, we will have encouragement from the Word of God. “And I will send you the Divine Encourager from the very presence of my Father. He will come to you, the Spirit of Truth, emanating from the Father, and he will speak to you about me (John 15:26 TPT).”

d) Proud Heart (Deuteronomy 8:14)

e) Wicked Heart (Deuteronomy 15:9)

f) Troubled Heart (John 14:1-3)

And many more. All these kinds of hearts can obstruct the Holy Spirit to be sustained inside our lives. When we practice daily to overcome all these emotions to make an effect in our lives, and when we stop to change situations and change people around us, the Holy Spirit will change us, and metamorphose us into the very likeness of Jesus and we will develop a heart which will be unaffected of any elements in the nature.

Different Chambers of a One New Heart

When more of the Holy Spirit comes, four chambers get opened in our one New heart.

a) Chamber of Humbleness (Psalms 51:17)

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart—These, O God, You will not despise.

The Bible says God resists the proud, but He gives more grace to the humble. The new covenant in Christ is all about the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. When brokenness comes, God will lead us to humbleness. Humbleness is a weapon to resist the weapons of the enemy.

b) Chamber of Faith (Romans 10:10)

For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.

The beauty of the believing heart is that if we have a chamber of believing, the promises of God will be very quick in our lives. Faith accelerates the promises in our lives. A believing heart has the word of God to the fullest, it is active, it releases faith and even when we think that things are impossible, faith will be released and make it possible in our lives.

c) Chamber of Love (1 Peter 1:8)

“Though you have not seen him, you love him;”

The third is a heart with a chamber of God's love. It will be a loveable heart. God’s Love will enable us to be glued to church fellowship and the Body of Christ. God’s Love will teach us to live in harmony with people and families around us.

d) Chamber of Obedience (Ezekiel 36:26)

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”

The last chamber is the chamber of obedience. When we are obedient to the word of God, we will be automatically obedient to the orders which God has set. It is easy to obey the commandments in the Word of God, but abiding by the divine order that the Lord has set in the Bible becomes hard. When the spirit of obedience comes, it is amazing to see how God can transform us. Sometimes promises are not getting fulfilled in our lives because of disobedience. We have to be submissive to the leaders that God has placed over us. When we fail to be obedient to our spiritual leaders, the impartation which is upon them will not happen in our lives. God has put spiritual leaders in our lives so that the blessings which come into their lives can be released onto those people who are obedient and stand with them.

Meaning of a New Heart

When the Holy Spirit comes, we undergo a divine metamorphosis, where our old selves are renewed, and transformed to receive One New Heart. Having a new heart means our heart becomes the mirror of God’s heart

Genesis 12:7 and James 3:9 says we are created in the likeness of God, to mirror God's image. God wants our heart to be in such a way that when we see God's heart through the lens of the Holy Spirit, we should mirror or reflect what is there in God's heart into our lives and when that happens that is when we become the new creation. This will give us a new heart that will sustain the beautiful Holy Spirit in our lives.

This one new heart will keep us away from sin and evil. Jesus said all evil is produced from our hearts so when it came into the new covenant, we see a very dynamic change where the Holy Spirit set up a platform of a changed heart that is full of God's image and nothing of the world and the flesh.

Concluding Prayer

Lord Jesus, through the power of the Unlimited Holy Spirit, install within us one new heart that is glued to the Body of Christ, always moving when the Glory of God moves. We accept the likeness of Jesus Christ, having a heart with chambers of obedience, Faith, Love, and humility. Thankyou that you are doing it.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
