Introduction
This is a sermon on the Promises of God, preached by Pr. Anish Mano Stephen.
The Christian life is an easy life. It is a life of rest. Any promise that we have received, if the Lord has started something, we have to allow the Lord to bring it to completion. We do not have to do anything. We just have to cooperate with the Holy Spirit and be in fellowship with the Holy Spirit. We must walk with the Holy Spirit.
God gave us promises so that He can reveal His love for us. God has given us precious, and highly valuable promises because we are most valuable to God. The greatest promise that God the Father promised is the Holy Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit, none of the promises in the Word of God are valid in our life. The promises manifest the love of God and the love of God is manifested by releasing the Holy Spirit onto us. The promises of God enlarge our vision of what God can do. Our life will never be in oblivion. And also, God's promises help us to overcome the power of discouragement and depression, because the Holy Spirit will take over, and the Holy Spirit God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we ask or think according to the power.
For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.
2 Corinthians 1:20
All the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. The greatest promise in the Bible, given to us by God is the Holy Spirit. When we receive the Holy Spirit, He changes our hearts. The Holy Spirit changes and transforms us. The Holy Spirit starts to release the promises of divine connections with this Almighty God, which helps us to hold on to our promises
Seven Important Promises in the Word of God
The Bible is a very beautiful book full of the promises of the Almighty God. In any problem we face, there is a promise for our problem in the Word of God. There are many promises of which we shall discuss a few of them.
Promise 1 – My Grace is Sufficient for thee
And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
2 Corinthians 12:9
This is a promise given by Jesus to the New Covenant Church. A New Covenant Church believer whom the Holy Spirit anoints is never incomplete or in a void state or they are never weak because the word of God says that the grace of God is sufficient for us and when that grace comes, the strength of God is also imparted and that strength is made perfect in all our weaknesses.
The beauty of the new covenant church is the Grace of the Almighty God. Grace means unmerited favor. Our Salvation, according to Ephesians 1:7, has happened due to the Grace of God. When we are in Christ, we are a new creation and the characteristics of Jesus Christ himself become our characteristics because we wear Jesus Christ on ourselves. So whatever we have received by the blessing of the Holy Spirit is not because of our merits, or because of who we are but by the Grace of God alone.
The beauty of more of God’s grace is Jesus will become our first priority and we will have the revelation that all that we have is purely God’s grace, and not of us but more of Him and His presence and His anointing. the more grace we have the more heavenly blessings will be there in our life.
God gave us grace when we are believing that God gave us grace, we are having more access to God's grace in which we stand and then we have hope. The word hope means good confident expectation. Hope comes from faith, which gives us access to God's grace. So, it is by grace that God gave us the faith to believe in salvation but by faith which we have received through the grace when we believe in Jesus, he gives us more grace when we value that grace of God in our life, we will stay away from sin, and all the pressures of the world.
The Bible says about falling from God's grace.
“…looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled; lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright. For you know that afterward when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears.”
Hebrews 12:15-17
We might not be indulging in major sins like the people of the world but the bitterness in our hearts will make us fall from God's grace. The higher we go in the dimension of God's grace, the higher the Christ-like standard God gives us. So, we have to make sure that we do not lose this promise of Grace
Promise 2 – All things work for Good
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
Romans 8:28
The Word of God says that all things work for good for those who are loved and predestined by the Almighty God. God is a good God, but still, when we look around us, we see many bad things happening in and around us. Troubles come because the devil is unleashed by God. He's just put out for a few years until God brings him into a final judgment, and till that time devil, the author of all sufferings will try to do the maximum he can. But one thing is certain, God will turn all the bad things that the devil is building or planning to execute in our life for good to display the Glory of God in our life. In the shipwreck that happened to Paul in Acts 27-28, we see the devil planning for evil, to take the life of Paul, by not letting the promise of his testimony in Rome be fulfilled, but Jesus intervened several times during that course of the journey and not only God saved the life of Paul and all the other people who were with him, but also there was a great harvest of souls and the place Malta had the greatest revival. What the devil planned for harm, Jesus turned it for good. God's plans are always above and beyond our thought processes. God may not work according to our desire, but it is just amazing when God works.
Promise 3 – God shall supply all our needs
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19
Everyone has needs in their life. God can and God will supply our needs. It can be through natural or supernatural means but God will supply. God knows our needs and what we need to progress in our lives. The word of God says we should not worry, but submit our prayers and supplications with a grateful heart to God. God does not supply for extravagance, God does not supply for luxury, but God supplies for our needs.
Promise 4 – God will keep us from stumbling
“…Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,…”
Jude 24
This is a very powerful promise. Many times, though being born again and spirit filled, we fail to walk in faith and we fear that we will stumble and fall. If we understand the gift of the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit will keep us from falling down in spiritual life. Here, through this verse, three things, the Holy Spirit wants us to know, first is, the Holy Spirit will keep us from stumbling in life. The second is we will be faultless at the coming of Lord Jesus Christ and the third is we will have exceeding joy. There is a difference between happiness and joy. Happiness is an emotional feeling which comes when things are happy around us, but joy is an inward emotion that comes when we have the Holy Spirit. Even if the situations around us will be unfavorable, we will be joyful.
Promise 5 – We will be victorious
“For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
1 Corinthians 15:3-4, 57
The Word of God says that we will be victorious. This is not just a spiritual victory; in every area of our life where death or hades walks into our lives, we will be victorious. The Holy Spirit that is in us is the spirit of boldness, the spirit of victory, and the spirit of authority so that we will be victorious in all areas of our life.
Promise 6 – All that belongs to Jesus are ours
All things that the father has are Mine. Therefore, I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.
John 16:15
One of the deepest and heart-touching promises in the bible is written in John 16:15 where Jesus joins us into His inheritance, sharing all the Father God has with us also. Whatever Jesus has is belonging to a New Covenant Believer. We do not need to strive and run behind the things of the world; the Holy Spirit will make it so real in our life that everything that belongs to Jesus will become ours. Life becomes very different after that. Jesus’s healing becomes ours; His prosperity becomes ours; His salvation becomes ours; His life becomes ours; His character becomes our character; His anointing becomes ours; His ministry becomes ours; and it is a beautiful intimacy with Jesus Christ.
Promise 7 – We get Eternal Life
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and My Father are one.”
John 10: 27-29
When we get the Holy Spirit, we get eternal life with Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible says one of the glorious places God is sitting ready for us is eternal life. That is the hope of a Christian, that even if we die we are going to a better place that is so beautiful and so glorious. There will be no sickness, no sin, no death, and no condemnation of the law, all that there will be is worship and eternal joy in the presence of God.
Concluding Prayer
Lord Jesus, we believe that all your promises are yes and amen. We confess that your grace is sufficient for us, and in our weakness, you strengthen us, supply for us from your riches, co-join us in your inheritance and make us victorious all the time. We give thanks to you for these wonderful promises that you have given us. Holy Spirit, we give glory to you that through you, we are able to experience the promises that are released for us. We love you and we bless your Holy name.
In Jesus name,
Amen
