Introduction – Promise

by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

1 Peter 1:4

The word promise means someone telling us something by their Word and by their word they mean that they are going to do it and fulfill it.

Bible says the promises of God are great and precious.

When the Bible uses the word great it means it is high and exalted above all human wisdom. God's promises are not like man's promises. God's promises do not base themselves on the wisdom of mankind. God's promises are based on the divine ability and the divine wisdom of the Almighty God.

God's promises are precious. The other name for the word precious is highly valuable.

We often struggle in our life because of not know that the promises that God has given us are high above, highly exalted and they are very precious in our life.

“God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

Numbers 23:19

There is beauty when we have a relationship with Lord Jesus Christ. All the promises written in the Bible are open in our life, valid in our life, and will happen in our life because God is never a man who will lie. Any problem we face in our life, there is a promise for our problem in the Word of God. There is no book in the whole world that has solutions for all the problems of human mankind except the holy Bible, the living Word of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Bible is a very beautiful book full of the promises of the Almighty God. And the promises work in a system of God called a covenant. The world mostly runs on contracts, but in the Bible, it is a covenant. The difference between a covenant and a contract is that contracts can be broken or taken off when the conditions are not met. But the beauty of the covenant is that they are never broken, it is always fulfilled.

1. God’s promises reveal God’s Love

God is a good God and He always does good things. Still, He gives promises to His children so that we can value the promise giver and not get contend by the promise that we received.

“Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”

Luke 12:6-7

God gave us promises so that He can reveal His love for us. God has given us precious, and highly valuable promises because we are most valuable to God. For the Abba Father in heaven, we are more precious than Jesus, His own son. That is why the Bible says, look at this father, how He lavished His love on us and did not spare His own only begotten Son, Lord Jesus Christ so that we will be adopted and be called as the sons and daughters of the living God. The promises that God has for us released His love for us. There is no one in the whole world who has loved us like the God in the Bible because God did not promise something and remained inactive but He demonstrated what He promised.

The Greatest Promise – The Holy Spirit

The greatest promise that God the Father promised is the Holy Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit, none of the promises in the Word of God are valid in your life.

Therefore, being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.

Acts 2:33

The first sign for us to know that we are deeply loved by God is the precious Holy Spirit.

When we receive the Holy Spirit, it changes our hearts. The Holy Spirit changes and transforms us. The Holy Spirit starts to release the promises of divine connections with this Almighty God, which helps us to hold on to our promises.

“In Him, you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,”

Ephesians 1:13

After we hear the gospel of salvation and believe in it, and accept Jesus Christ as our personal saviour, we get sealed with the Holy Spirit of Promise. Our Christian life starts by getting this promise first.

“That the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”

Galatians 3:14

How great is the Love of God for all the people of the World? The greatest promise of God, which was according to the law set for only Jews, was made available to gentiles like us. We just have to believe in Lord Jesus Christ and the Word of God says that through faith, we shall receive the promise of the Spirit.

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.

Ezekiel 36:26-27

In the Old Testament also, we see the promise of the Spirit of God where God says the Spirit will enable us to walk in the statutes of God and observe the commandments. So, there is absolutely no shortage of supply of anything in our life when we have the promise of the Holy Spirit. If we have the Holy Spirit, rest everything will be added to our life.

2. God’s Promise enlarges our vision of what God can do

The promises of God enlarge our vision of what God can do. Many times, we think about our needs about what we can do, but the Bible says when the promises of God are released, it enlarges our mindset, and our visions and let us know what God can do.

You keep every promise you have ever made to me! Since your love for me is constant and endless, I ask you, Lord, to finish every good thing that you have begun in me!

Psalms 138:8 (TPT)

The promises manifest the love of God and the love of God is manifested by releasing the Holy Spirit onto us. And here the Psalmist is saying because the Holy Spirit is upon us, the love is endless in our life. And because the love is endless, the good thing that God has begun in us, the Lord Himself will finish it.

The Christian life is an easy life. It is a life of rest. Any promise that we have received, if the Lord has started something, we have to allow the Lord to bring it to completion. We do not have to do anything. We just have to cooperate with the Holy Spirit and be in fellowship with the Holy Spirit. You must walk with the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit brings into action the wonderful exalted plan of God in your life. And that is where our heart has to be in tune with the Holy Spirit so that we can pick up His voice and move in the alignment of God's perfect well. The Bible says those who do the will of God will stand forever. Holy Spirit will make us walk in the plans of God.

3. God's promises help us to overcome the power of discouragement and depression.

The most common ill feeling that we all have is discouragement. it is the most common thing that can catch hold of our life. When a person is having the great promise of the Holy Spirit, he will never be discouraged because the Holy Spirit is the spirit of encouragement. We all must have desires of our own, but when the Holy Spirit takes over, Holy Spirit God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we ask or think according to the power.

As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.

2 Samuel 22:31

The Word of God says that God's ways are already proven when it got manifested in Christ Jesus. When the great plan of God was manifested in Christ Jesus, Satan got fooled. People did not understand but it was the high, exalted plan of the Almighty God.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

Romans 8: 28

There is nothing that happens in our life without the knowledge of God. He is in control of everything. If we understand the power of the promises of God, we will never question God, fight with God, or ask God why this and that happened. We will keep on confessing that it worked together for my good.

Concluding Prayer

Dear God, we pray that you will allow us to embrace the greatest promise that you have released for us, the blessed Holy Spirit so that we can experience your endless love and overcome every challenge that comes against our life.

In Jesus Name,

Amen.
